Sardonyx is a cryptocrystalline quartz mixture that contains layers of clear red to reddish brown carnelian alternating with layers of occasional white quartz, white or blue agate in black onyx.
It is known as the stone of virtue and thought to stimulate virtuous conduct throughout the many phases of ones life. It can be used to encourage self control and to diminish hesitation and provides courage. It has been used in the treatment of infection and in the alleviation of pain.
