Seraphinite is a trade name for a particular form of clinochlore, a member of the chlorite group. The name is derived from the resemblance of feathers in the pattern of the stone. Sometimes the pattern is obvious, sometimes it is not. The stone is generally dark green to gray in color, has chatoyancy, and a Mohs hardness between 2 and 4. The word Seraph is from Isaiah 6 in the Hebrew Testament, and refers to winged angelic beings in service of God. This beautiful stone is mined in a small area in Siberia and as a result is somewhat rare and expensive.
Metaphysical properties: Seraphinite is a member of the "chlorite" group, which is extremely healing and dispells negative emotions by helping you stop those emotions at their source.
